Expressions of interest for Consultancy services for environmental and social impact assessment (esia) for the phase ii of the rice value chain transformation project (rvctp-ii)
PROPOSED PROJECT COMPONENTS OF THE RVCTP II • Rehabilitation of existing Irrigation infrastructure: this will consider the turn around maintenance of existing irrigation infrastructure to improve capacity for water supply and control. The component would also consider resizing of main canals, explore lining of canals with concrete, fixing of main and secondary gates, and lastly building of a perimeter protection dike. • Production: Land preparation specifically levelling of rice fields, seeds, and use of agrochemicals (fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides) • Mechanization-provision of the accurate machinery including tractors, combine harvesters, ploughers among others to improve pre, production and postproduction. • Post-Harvest Management- rehabilitation and/or construction of drying floors, waiting sheds and renovation of seeds stores. 3. REQUIREMENTS The specific policies and standards of the AfDB that must be followed during the ESIA preparation, in addition to The Gambia National Environment Agency (NEA) requirements, are the following (not exhaustive): The ISS Policy adopted in December 2013. The Bank requires that borrowers/clients comply with the safeguard’s requirements during project preparation and implementation. ? The Gender Policy (2001) and Bank Group Gender Strategy (2013) ? AfDB Civil Society Engagement Framework (2012) ? Disclosure and Access to Information Policy (2012) ? Policy on Poverty Reduction (2001) ? Policy for Integrated Water Resources Management (2000) ? Environmental and Social Assessment Procedures (ESAP).
